Ghanada Choturmukh retained pictures from the first book, though colours varied.

Indian Associated Publishing Co. Private Limited, 1968

2. Das Holen Ghanada

(Thus the Title of ‘Das’)

center

This is the sole mention we’ve found of  Das Holen Ghanada as a separate book.

Some experts claim, Knacha Kalam was the magazine edited by artist Ajit Gupta & others, and not a publishing house, where the novella first appeared.

If so, the year 1971 seems doubtful, as Das Holen Ghanada had already featured in Agra Jakhon Tawomawl (1968).

3. Ghanada Kishore Omnibus

(Ghanada’s Teen Omnibus)

Year: 1990

Publisher: Kamini Prakashalay

Jacket Design: Satya Chakraborty

Illustrations: Amal Chattopadhyay

Omnibus of seven previously compiled Ghanada tales:

1) Ghanadake Vote Din,  2) Machhi, 3) Knecho from the book Ghanadake Vote Din 4) Suto from Adwityo Ghanada ; 5) Moukashabish [originally titled Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh Ekbachan Na Bahubachan] from Ghanada O Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh ; 6) Bhasha from Ghanadar Juri Nei and
7) Ghanadar Gul [originally Ghanada Phirlen] from
Ghanada O Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh.

Ghanada Kishore Omnibus had a bright, multi-coloured cover by Satya Chakraborty. Ghanashyam could be identified by his elongated cranium. All stories had headpieces by Amal Chattopadhyay, where our hero resembled the Ajit Gupta prototype. Ghanadake Vote Din featured two additional sketches.

4. Ghanadar Bachhai Galpo

(Selected Stories of Ghanada)

Year:  1992

Publisher: Sarkar and Co.

Jacket Design: Ranjan Dutt

Illustrations: Dilip Das

A selection of ten tales starring Ghanada:

1) Tupi,  2) Chhori, 3)Lattu
(from the book Ghanadar Galpo)

4) Phuto, 5) Hnash
(from Adwityo Ghanada)

6) Dhulo, 7) Mulo, 8) Tawl,
9) Nach, 10) Kada.
(all stories from Jnar Nam Ghanada)

The eleventh entry is a non-Ghanada, Premendra Mitra’s ‘Mahakasher Atithi’.

The headpiece for the latter is copied from the book Ghanadar Shongi Shathi (1986).

Surprisingly, the artists credited are: Amal Chattopadhyay for ‘Ghanadar Shongi Shathi’ and Dilip Das for ‘Ghanadar Bachhai Galpo’.

The jacket designers of the two volumes are: Satya Chakraborty and Ranjan Dutt respectively.

In spite of this,
the central Ghanada on the two covers are identical!

Dilip Das follows the Ajit Gupta prototype while portraying our hero, though his moustache betrays a lack of continuity.

5. Brihat Ghanada Shankalan

(Giant Book of Ghanada)

Year:  1993

Publisher: Shoibya Prakashan Bibhag

Jacket Design: Robin Basu, inspired by Ajit Gupta

Illustrations: Ajit Gupta, Robin Basu

A bumper collection of the books:

Abar Ghanada (1963), Mongolgrohey Ghanada (1973), Ghanada Nityo Notun (1966)
& the verse Ghanar Bachon in two parts.

But the unique feature of this volume was the inclusion of an interview & write-up by Premendra Mitra, Mosha annotated by noted critic Dharani Ghosh, and two poems, seven articles on various aspects of Ghanada.

The interview Ghanada Elo Kotha Thekey
is not mentioned in the contents.

All entries from this section termed Ghanada Guide, first appeared in the special Ghanada issue of Kishore Jnan Bijna (June, 1986), with different illustrations.

Brihat Ghanada Shankalan retained original Ajit Gupta sketches for the short stories, grafted Gupta-Ghanada heads on bodies by Narayan Debnath in Mongolgrohey Ghanada and was additionally sprinkled with stock sketches by Ajit Gupta / Robin Basu.

Abar Ghanada & Ghanada Nityo Notun sections had a brand new introductory page of contents.

(Ghanada’s Adventures)

Eight adventures from Ghanada Nityo Notun (1966) & Ghanadar Juri Nei (1970) and one from Abar Ghanada  (1963) were categorised into three sections in this volume:

Jawley [‘On Water’] featured Bhasha, Tel, Chokh ;

Sthawley [On Land] had Map, Chhata, Kulpi [Ghanada Kulpi Khan Na] ;

Jangaley [In the Forest] contained Mati, Jawl & Such.

Ghanadar Obhijan, Shoibya Prakashan Bibhag, 2002

Author Siddhartha Ghosh (1948 – 2002), proposer & founder member of Ghanada Club wrote the introduction. Also included was a brief write-up on the club. Robin Basu designed the cover, based on Ajit Gupta’s sketch for Jawl. Though the illustrations inside went uncredited, those from Ghanada Nityo Notun retained the Ajit Gupta originals, the rest followed the 1993 & 2003 editions of Ghanadar Juri Nei [Dhiren Baul – Ajit Gupta collaboration] & Abar Ghanada respectively. Stock Ghanada figures seen in Brihat Ghanada Shankalan were sprinkled throughout.

Half of a sketch from Tel appears in reverse in Ghanadar Obhijan!

7. Ghanada Banam Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh

(Ghanada Versus Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh)

Year:  Book Fair, 2003

Publisher: Shoibya Prakashan Bibhag

Jacket Design / Illustrations: Robin Basu, inspired by Ajit Gupta [& an uncredited Alay Kumar Ghoshal]

Labelled an extended edition of  Ghanada O Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh (1985), this book removed two Mahabharat-series tales – Ghanadar Sholyo Shamachar & Atharo Noy Unish from the older volume, and added the final Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh story. Inexplicably, an initial chunk of Ghanada Phirlen was removed, the result titled ‘Ghanadar Gul’.

b) Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh O Ghanada, Year Unknown.

g) Ghanadar Gul [a truncated Ghanada Phirlen, 1984].

Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh is also a part of Halley-r Bechal, not included here. Cover is based on a stock sketch from Brihat Ghanada Shankalan.  More appear as tailpieces.

Ghanada faces by Alay Ghoshal from Ghanada O Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh were replaced by Ajit Gupta-type ones presumably drawn by Robin Basu.Ghoshal remains uncredited.

In tale # 1, following Ghanada O Mou-Ka-Sha-Bi-Sh, the receipient’s name: ‘Ghana dadu’ is missing from the facsimile envelope sent by ‘Tukai’.

Story # 5 retains the original Alay Ghoshal sketches from Kishore Jnan Bijnan, with the hero’s head by Robin Basu.
