At least five sets of Ghanada comic strips by Rebatibhushan, Phalguni (Dhruba Roy ?), Anil Karmakar / Goutam Karmakar, Ranjan Dutta, Shubhra Chakrabarty featured regularly in dailies, teen magazines & annuals.
From 1st May 1969, an uncredited artist (probably Bitapal, pseudonym of Atanu Basu) replaced Rebatibhushan, who later designed the logo for ‘Ghanada Club’.
In the early 1970s it appeared serially in ‘Jugantar’. See the ‘Blogus‘ blog for details:

Goutam Karmakar’s excellent series in ‘Kishore Jnan Bijnan’: ‘Mongolgrohey Ghanada’ (May 1985 – May 1986), ‘Mati’ (Puja Special, 1985), ‘Tel’ (June, 1986) reminds one of the Dhiren Baul prototype with an Ajit Gupta cranium shape.
His series in the Ujjal Sahitya Mandir annuals includes:
‘Nuri’ (‘Ujjwal Utshab’, 1996), ‘Phuto’ (‘Sonali Utshab’, 1997), ‘Hnash’ (‘Milan Utshab’, 1998), ‘Ghori’ (‘Mawjar Utshab’, 1999) & more …
‘Mosha’, ‘Poka’, ‘Kach’ from book # 2
first appeared in ‘Anandamela’ annuals (2005, 2006, 2007).
Juvenile fiction in Bengali is dominated by the ‘Da’-s. Tenida, Pheluda, Wrijuda, Pindida….
Ghanashyam Das was among the first to popularise this trend.
Ghanada’s zany yarns were originally decorated with a set of uber-cool drawings complementing his persona.
Sadly, only a sprinkling is gettable at present.
This website, a companion to our Facebook Page ‘Ghanada‘, ventures to display the illustrious Ghanada illustrations.
And more… if you’re keen!
